Have you noticed the black colour of its finish? It is not just decorative but has to do with its manufacturing process, which has come down to us from pre-Roman times, passing from one generation of craftsmen to the next.
They are made from local clay that is moulded on a low wheel and left to dry in the air. The most characteristic part of the process is the firing: a special oven is used that is sealed to eliminate all oxygen, which causes the carbonisation of the plant remains and the impregnation of smoke in the pieces, which makes their surface turn black.
They come to the store from the Ribeira Sacra, in the south of the province of Lugo, a place with a very long pottery tradition.
The measurements of the pieces, being handmade, may vary by a few centimeters.
No two pieces are the same and may have imperfections in their finish.
