Mohair blankets from Ezcaray: softness with history
Since the 1930s, in a small town in La Rioja called Ezcaray, some of the softest and warmest blankets in existence have been made. These unique pieces are woven with mohair, one of the most luxurious natural fibers in the world, obtained from the hair of Angora goats.
If you're looking for a lightweight, warm blanket lovingly made in Spain, this collection is for you.
What is mohair and why is it so special?
Mohair is ahollow natural fiber inside,This allows for the creation of small air pockets during weaving. And air, as you know, is the best thermal insulator. That's why these blankets are so warm without being heavy.
Lightness, warmth, softness and natural shine: that's the magic of mohair.
Furthermore, at Real Fábrica we use the highest possible percentage of mohair, mixed with a little wool and a small percentage of polyamide to give it structure.
Each drawing requires a different mix, but always with one clear premise:More mohair, better quality:
- Plain or checkered blankets: 73% mohair.
- Striped blankets: between 50% and 73% mohair.
- Weft blankets: 40% mohair.
- Circle blankets: 23% mohair.

How are these blankets made?
They are produced inEzcaray, in the only factory of this type remaining in Spain.
- The fiber is washed and dyed in the workshop itself.
- Then, it is stored in a humid environment to better fix the colors.
- The weaving is done on centuries-old looms, and the final finish is achieved with a traditional system: rollers with natural thistles!
- This is how the fibers are separated and that characteristic fluffy volume is achieved.
A curious fact: mohair has agood directionbrushing. That's why each blanket is brushed in only one direction to achieve that soft, shiny finish.
How do you care for a mohair blanket?
No water:
- It is not washed.
- It doesn't get wet.
- And it never goes in the washing machine (not even on the wool program).
So how do you take care of it? Very easy:
- With anatural bristle brush(hard if possible), always brush in the right direction.
- This removes dust, restores natural shine, and preserves it for years.
Brushing it at the end of winter, before storing it, is the best way to keep it perfect generation after generation.
Who is an Ezcaray blanket ideal for?
- For those who seekweightless coat.
- For those who appreciate the quiet luxury of craftsmanship.
- A gift with meaning.
- To make your sofa, your bed, or your life more beautiful.
