What is mohair?
HemohairIt is a natural fiber that comes from the hair of theAngora goatIt is considered a luxury fiber, comparable to others such as cashmere, due to its softness, lightness, and ability to retain heat.
One of the most important characteristics of mohair is that its fiber ishollow insideAs it's woven, tiny air pockets are created within the fabric. Air is one of the best natural thermal insulators, which explains why mohair scarves are so warm without being heavy or suffocating.
Why mohair scarves keep you warm without weighing you down
Thanks to its internal air-filled structure, mohair:
- It retains heat very well.
- It is extremely lightweight.
- It's not overwhelming to wear.
Therefore, a mohair scarf can provide a great feeling of warmth without needing to be very heavy or thick, making it a comfortable accessory for everyday wear.
Mohair is always mixed with other fibers.
MohairIt cannot weave itselfbecause it doesn't have enough structure to stand on its own. For this reason, it's always mixed with other fibers, usuallywooland in some cases with a small percentage ofpolyamide.
In our mohair scarves we always work with themaximum possible amount of mohairUsing the necessary yarn to knit the garment correctly. Depending on the design—plain, striped, or plaid—the proportion of mohair may vary, so each scarf has its own composition, which is always indicated on the product page.
Mohair scarves made in Ezcaray
Our mohair scarves are manufactured inEzcaray, a small town in La Rioja known for decades for its textile tradition. There, a family business founded in 1930 operates, passing down its expertise from generation to generation.
It is currently one of the few remaining factories in Europe dedicated to this type of artisanal production, where traditional looms and manual processes are still used to make scarves, blankets and other mohair accessories.
A handcrafted process that makes all the difference
During the manufacturing process, mohair is worked respecting its natural characteristics. Once woven, it undergoes a finishing process that separates the fibers and creates its characteristic volume, so light and fluffy.
This artisanal work results in scarves with body, movement and an unmistakable texture, where each piece retains a unique character.
