Pear-shaped oil cruets are a traditional creation of Úbeda pottery. The clay used is red, typical of Úbeda pottery. The pieces are slipped, a layer of white clay that is applied before decoration. In the case of blue clay, this colour is obtained through the use of oxides and glazes that react during firing, providing the characteristic blue finish.
The potter responsible for these oil makers is part of a dynasty that dates back to 1846 and follows a completely artisanal process to create his pieces. He uses techniques that have been passed down through generations, such as wheel modelling and high-temperature firing.
