Small Sardines in Olive Oil
These delicious small sardines are preserved in smooth, very high quality olive oil. These sardines are rich in Omega 3, and can be eaten straight from the tin, with a slice of bread and a good vermouth. These sardines are also perfect for tomato and olive salads, however, if you prefer sandwiches why not add some mini sardines, with some piquillo chillis to some fresh bread? You could also make a homemade paté by crushing the sardines and adding cheese and herbs, and why not make use of the oil in the tin by making a mayonnaise? The possibilities are endless!
The small sardines in olive oil are made by a Spanish fishing company called Balea, who produce some of the highest quality preserved fish in the country! Balea selects only the very best sardines to offer a premium quality product. Spain traditionally produces plenty of high quality preserved fish that are still made using almost 100% manual artisan techniques.
The fish is as fresh as it gets, from Pontevedra, then taken to the artisan factory where the employees (mostly women), clean them and put them into the tins by hand.
This company was founded in 1915, when the Italian Pedro Montemerlo moved to Cangas de Morrazo in Pontevedra and discovered the great quality of Galician fish.
