Paprika is one of our culinary prides, because it is the spice that Spain spread throughout the world. It is very present in our gastronomy, in the flavors of our childhood and in that smell of traditional stew that is always so comforting.

But everything is modernized, and at Finca La Barca they offer us a renewed version of sweet paprika: the dried smoked peppers are crushed into small flakes to give a new touch of flavor to your cooking. A new and gourmet way to give more flavor to pizzas, pasta, meats, fish. We tested it?

On February 2 and 3, San Blas is celebrated in Montehermoso, one of the oldest traditional festivals in Extremadura, dating back to the 16th century, no less.

The protagonists are the "Negritos", a group of 7 dancers with their faces smeared with burnt cork and who dance to the sound of their castanets. Among them is the “Palotero”, who carries a leather bag with the dance utensils. The black people's costume is the gala costume of Montehermoso. The palotero dresses differently, and his clothing is similar to that of a jester. He wears a cap that imitates a bishop's miter and castanets larger than the rest. Normally the hat has the initials VSB (Viva San Blas) sewn on it.

According to popular legend, a very poor family of seven brothers came to the town every year to ask for alms on San Blas Day, performing a new dance each year. After sixteen years, they had performed their entire repertoire, so they painted their faces black to make it seem like they were others performing. They were still recognized, but the people allowed them to return every year on the condition that they perform their dances with their faces blackened.

These Palotero caps are hand-braided in the town of Montehermoso by the only recognized artisan who continues this work, being the 4th generation of her family to continue the tradition.
