In the history of journalism, and even in the very history of the press, La Codorniz is a milestone that several generations of Spanish remember fondly. This comic magazine for bolder smarter reathers appeared weekly between 1941 and 1978: a miracle for those running times.

Founded by Miguel Mihura, father of contemporary Spanish humor, this magazine became a legend under the direction of Alvaro de La Iglesia, who took charge of the weekly paper in 1944 and did not leave until 1977. La Codorniz was a group of resourceful journalists and cartoonists who are now among the best of Spanish humor: Tone and Mihura, Blacksmiths and Gila, and Chumy Mingote Chúmez, Manuel Vicent and Candide, among many others.
